A day off- almost!

We had thought we'd take today off and try surfing in Santa Cruz. Two
small problems with that: no waves (a guess we slept through the right
tide timing) and cold weather! Instead Chris thought it would be fun
to bike to the University of Santa Cruz campus, a mere 2.7 miles
away. After a huge climb uphill we hit the corner of campus, and
after another 2 miles (also uphill) we turned back for a long coast
back down to the ocean level where we're staying, plus a detour or
two. Our "day off": 12 miles on the bike and over 1000 feet of
vertical gain. Maybe we'll avoid that type of day off next time if we
can find a nice couch and mint bonbons. :-)
